Mold Inspection: Mold found underneath laminate flooring in Charleston home.

A Charleston homeowner contacted GLS Engineering to perform a mold inspection when their flooring contractor informed them mold was discovered under the laminate floors they were replacing. The mold was taking advantage of moisture that was being trapped under the laminate floors as vapor pressure was driving the moisture from the high humidity underneath the floors toward the cooler, drier interior of the home. This is a common problem with flooring materials that act as vapor barriers and is exacerbated with high humidity underneath and cold temperatures (below 72 degrees) above. Since contractors were already on site, GLS developed a plan to remove the mold and protect the floors prior to the new floors going in and also provided an antimicrobial vapor treatment to remove/neutralize any mold spores that had already been dispersed throughout the home. The new floors look great!
